Travel from the lush Okahu valley, following rivers, streams and waterfalls up to the Moerangi saddle and dropping down into the Majestic Whirinaki.  Our nights are spent in either D.O.C huts or out under the stars, sharing local stories around the campfire and our days taking note of the abundant bird life and ever-changing native forest.  This trek takes you on a journey from Te Urewera rainforest, up and over into the Whirinaki Te Pua a Tane rainforest.  These rainforests comprise one of the old names for this area - Te Manawa o Te Ika a Maui, the heart of the fish of Maui...

Fitness level needed: Very good.  You will need to be able to walk and carry a pack with all your gear for at least 3 - 4 hours per day
